A month after firing its longtime executive officer, the South Coast Air Quality Management District board voted Friday to hire former EPA administrator Wayne Nastri as acting chief of the four-county air district.

Nastri, 56, was given a six-month contract at a salary of $271,080.

Nastri served as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s western region administrator based in San Francisco. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in November 2001 and held the job until 2009.

He is president of the environmental and energy consulting firm E4 Strategic Solutions, which operates in Washington, D.C., and California, according to his LinkedIn page. Read more
