Food Packaging Included in California’s New Product Safety Regs Work Plan

In February 2018, California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) released a Draft Three-Year Priority Product Work Plan for 2018 through 2020 (Draft Work Plan that includes food packaging as a priority category.  DTSC is required to issue a work plan every three years under the state’s Green Chemistry Initiative and the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) implementing regulations

The SCP regulations establish a four-step process to identify and regulate products that may expose consumers to toxic chemicals. Read more

US job growth surges in February

ob creation in the US economy surged last month, but the annual rate of wage growth slowed.

The economy created 313,000 jobs in February, official figures show, far in excess of analysts' expectations. However, the unemployment rate remained at 4.1%, while the annual earnings growth rate slowed to 2.6% last month. Read more...

EPA proposes aerosol can recycling system

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a system for handling hazardous waste of aerosol cans that encourages recycling. EPA estimates it will also save at least $3 million per year in regulatory costs. “Today’s proposal increases opportunities for safe recycling of aerosol cans, while also simplifying hazardous waste regulations,” EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt says. “We remain committed to protecting human health and the environment while also providing regulatory certainty to American businesses.” Read more...
